The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) carried out a series of programmes today at Ibotonsana Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Uripok; Royal Academy of Advance Learning, Top Siphai; and SI School, Canchipur as part of its ongoing 46th Realisation Month campaign under the theme “Realise to Save the Indigenous Peoples of Manipur.” Students and teachers participated in the programme.
Addressing the campaign, AMSU General Secretary Salam Changkhonba stated that safeguarding the indigenous population should not be left to the government alone, stressing that every resident of the state must take responsibility.
He alleged that for personal gains and relationships, some individuals have been facilitating the enrolment of non-locals and foreigners in Aadhaar and their inclusion in the state’s electoral rolls, and asserted that such practices must be stopped immediately. He cautioned that failure to check these activities could invite strong public backlash against those involved.
Changkhonba further urged that if any suspicious or unidentified individuals are found to have been enrolled, concerned citizens should report the matter to the appropriate authorities so that necessary action can be taken in accordance with the law.
The programme was also attended by Assistant Teacher Chanam Somendrajit, Assistant Teacher Moirangthem Sanamatum, and Huidrom Punsiba, along with several students.
