Imphal, June 23: All Manipur Primary Teachers Association, AMPTA, has expressed support to the phase-wise hunger strike being staged by a group of government teachers over non-payment of ten months salaries, maintaining that their demands are genuine and reasonable.
According to a press statement issued by the secretary and information secretary of the association, 1786 teachers have not received their salaries for the last ten months as the government did not fulfill its promise on regularization of their services even after Cabinet had given its approval.
The statement said the striking teachers have been undergoing different types of difficulties arising out of the non-payment of their salaries for a long period of time. The previous government sat over the issue during its tenure and when the matter was brought up with the new government there were positive signs instantly as it reciprocated with sincerity, the statement added.
As a matter of fact, the state Cabinet which met on April 28 last adopted a resolution approving the regularisation of their services. Surprisingly, since then, the matter was kept on sideline by the government and it refrained from taking the natural step of issuing the order for regularisation of the teachers in line with the expectation generated by the Cabinet decision, the AMPTA’s statement said.
The distressed teachers are encountering a multitude of problems in meeting their social obligations and proceeding with their normal lives, it added.
