AMMSO’s general strike affect normalcy in Muslim dominated areas

The General strike called by the All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation against the arrest of 11 workers of NPP candidate of Kshetrigao Assembly constituency Sheikh Noorul Hassan on Monday by Porompat police and demanding unconditional release of the arrested 11 workers, greatly affected Muslim dominated areas. In Hatta, a huge number of protestors came out into the street supporting the General Strike called by AMMSO . Police resorted to firing several rounds of Tear Gas Shell and Mock bombs to disperse the protestors. Similarly, a huge number of protestors came out into the street in Porompat DC Road, and the police fired Tear Gas and Mock bombs to disperse the huge number of protestors.
As per source, on March 11 while carrying out a victory procession of the NPP candidate Sheikh Noorul Hassan, workers of the latter allegedly brandished guns and other deadly weapons. A violent fight broke out between the workers of NPP and BJP, causing destruction of properties and injury to some workers. The incident reportedly took place at Khergao Sabal Leikai in Imphal East.
It was alleged that the arrested 11 workers were picked up without citing any reasons for their arrest, while the MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan was taking oath at the State Assembly. It may be mentioned that, after the police arrested the workers without citing any reasons, a huge number of people build up a mob and stormed Porompat Police Station. The mob damaged a few vehicles and one woman head constable was injured.
