The All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation (AMMSO) has submitted a formal complaint to the Superintendent of Police, Imphal East District, requesting the immediate registration of an FIR against an individual allegedly spreading communal hatred and misinformation on social media.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Maga, who reportedly operates a Facebook account under the pseudonym “Liming Punshr” and is a resident of Nongpok, uploaded and circulated a video containing false, inflammatory, and malicious content targeting the Manipuri Muslim community. AMMSO claimed that the video was deliberately created to provoke communal tension, malign the community, and disrupt public peace and harmony. The video, the complaint stated, remains publicly accessible and continues to be shared online.
The complaint emphasized that the language and narrative used in the video indicate a wilful and premeditated intent to promote enmity between communities. The use of a false identity to disseminate such content, AMMSO said, further demonstrates deliberate misuse of digital platforms.
The organisation warned that such acts could lead to serious communal unrest and public disorder if not addressed promptly.
AMMSO cited relevant provisions of Indian criminal law, including offences relating to promotion of communal hatred, intentional provocation, public mischief, and misuse of electronic communication platforms, and requested a thorough investigation, stringent legal action against the accused, and immediate removal of the video to prevent further escalation.
The complaint was signed by Imtiya Tokmayum, President of AMMSO, who affirmed the organisation’s willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation and provide any additional information or evidence required by the authorities. AMMSO expressed full confidence in the Manipur Police to uphold the rule of law and maintain communal harmony in the state.
