The All Mizoram Manipuri Association (AMMA), Mizoram, has urged the Chief Minister of Manipur to facilitate the early resumption of the Imphal–Aizawl flight service under the UDAN scheme, stating that its suspension has caused considerable hardship to commuters between the two states.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, the association highlighted that the direct flight service between Imphal and Aizawl has remained suspended since October 2025. The disruption, AMMA stated, has adversely affected nearly 2,500 people who regularly travel for medical treatment, education, employment and essential family obligations.
The association noted that since the discontinuation of the service, passengers have been compelled to travel through alternative routes such as Silchar, Agartala, Guwahati or Kolkata, leading to higher travel costs, longer transit durations and significant inconvenience. The difficulties are particularly acute for patients, elderly persons and students.
AMMA also pointed out that students from Mizoram pursuing studies in institutions in Manipur, including the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Shija Academy of Health Sciences, Central Agricultural University and National Institute of Technology Manipur, have been facing similar challenges due to the absence of direct air connectivity.
Stating that the restoration of the Imphal–Aizawl flight would substantially ease travel and strengthen social, educational, medical, administrative and economic linkages between the two neighbouring states, the association sought the Chief Minister’s intervention to pursue the matter with the concerned authorities for early revival of the service under the regional connectivity scheme.
