The All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba have strongly condemned the alleged repeated sexual assault of an 11-year-old Class VI student by a police personnel in Thoubal district.
In a joint statement issued by S. Memcha, President of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, and Ksh. Sujata, General Secretary of AMAWOVA, the organisations alleged that the minor girl was sexually assaulted multiple times on February 16, 2026. The accused has been identified as Ningthoujam Mohindro, a 55-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector posted at Heirok Police Station in Thoubal district.
The two organisations described the incident as deeply disturbing and expressed concern that the alleged crime was committed by a member of the police force, whose duty is to safeguard citizens. They stated that such acts, if proven, amount to a serious breach of public trust and institutional responsibility.
The joint statement demanded immediate and stringent legal action against the accused, urging authorities to ensure that due process is followed without delay. It further called for the accused to be booked under relevant provisions of law and to face appropriate punishment if found guilty.
The organisations also stressed the need for accountability and protection of the victim, urging concerned authorities to ensure her safety and well-being during the course of investigation and legal proceedings.
