Amar Yumnam appointment as VC in charge official

After a long confusion on who to handle the top most rein of Manipur University after Court appointed Administrator Jarnail Singh’s tenure came to an end on 30^th November 2020, today an official order by Prof. W Chandbabu Singh, Registrar appointed Prof Amar Yumnam as the Vice-Chancellor(in charge) with immediate effect. Prof Amar Yumnam will remain as the VC(in charge) of Manipur University until he attains the age of 65 years or a new regular VC takes formal charge, whichever is earlier.
It may be mention the post of a regular VC has been lying vacant since former VC AP Pandey was relieved of his post following month long protest against his administration. After his dismissal as VC by the Ministry, former Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh was appointed as the Administrator of MU. Citing personal reasons, Jarnail Singh requested for relinquishing his post and Court accepted his prayer during a hearing on 27^th November 2020 and directed to continue his service till 30^th November 2020.
Following the Court’s order, the VC office was vacant but as per protocol/Statute 2(6) of the Statutes of the Manipur University one senior most Professor shall assume the charges. It is considered as dereliction of duty if not taken. Interestingly, the High Court order was passed on 27^th November 2020 and as per the order, Jarnail Singh was permitted for relieving his post on 30^th November.
