AMACSU organises ‘17th Emasingeedamak’ programme

The All Manipur Arts and Culture Students’ Union (AMACSU) organised “17th Emasingeedamak” in connection with the 86th anniversary of Nupi Lan at the auditorium hall of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.
During the programme, 13 mothers who have made notable contributions in various fields of art were honoured with the Athoiba Lamjing Lamtak AMACSU Awards 2025.
The event was attended by Padma Shri Awardee Dr Elam Indira, Senior Guru of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy and President of the Manipur Traditional Dance Teachers’ Society and Pung Cholom Association, as Chief Guest. Head of the Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University, Dr Meikam Thoiba Singh, attended as Guest of Honour, while State Kala Young Talent Awardee in Thang Ta and AMACSU President Samurailatpam Abung Sharma attended the function as President.
Speaking on the occasion, the AMACSU President recalled the historic role of Manipuri women during British rule, stating that women rose in protest when food grains produced in Manipur were taken away by the colonial authorities. He said Manipuri women displayed courage and determination in resisting British policies and made immense sacrifices for the land and its people.
He added that the Union has been honouring mothers who have contributed to various fields of art as a mark of respect and recognition for their role in preserving and promoting Manipur’s cultural heritage. The awards are presented every year in connection with Nupi Lan.
The “17th Emasingeedamak” programme is usually held annually on December 12, observed as Nupi Lan Day. However, this year’s event was rescheduled and held on December 16 as Nupi Lan Day was observed as a boycott day across the state.
