After the internal crisis in state Congress party, which is the main opposition political party, came to the public domain after its president Govindas Konthoujam had tender his resignation from the post of MPCC president to the AICC leadership, and following media reports about Govindas Konthoujam along with some Congress legislature joining the BJP, former Union Minister and AICC in-charge of Manipur Bhakta Charan Das today arrived in Manipur and discussed in-depth regarding the new development with Congress Legislatures.
Soon after his arrival at Imphal Airport, the AICC leader in charge of Manipur was given a warm reception by MPCC workers including Congress MLA K Meghachandra, former Minister Kh Ratan, MPCC officer bearer Rani Punam among others today morning. Replying to queries about his visit, Bhakta Charan Das straight away said that his visit is related to the election preparation.
Regarding the resignation by the President of MPCC Govindas Konthoujam, Bhakta Charan Das indirectly reply that indiscipline among the party members will not be tolerated. He didn’t give any direct answer on whether the resignation by MLA Govindas Konthoujam from the post of President has been accepted by the AICC or not, but Charan Das said that a state party President is the most responsible post and any indiscipline act cannot be tolerated. He also added that any chaos or irregularities in the functioning of the organization should be held responsible by the head of the party.
On a question about a report of conflict in connection with the change of CLP leaders, Charan das said that as of now there have been no complaints made from anybody to the matter relating CLP leader.
CWC member Gaikhangam who went to Khoupum has rushed back to Imphal soon after he gets information about the visit of the AICC in charge of Manipur Bhakta Charan Das to Imphal. However, till noon, Gaikhangam was yet to arrive at the Classic Grande Hotel, at Chingmeirong Imphal.
Later the AICC in-charge of Manipur held series of meeting with the Congress legislature party at Classic Grande Hotel, here in Imphal.
Reporters waited for the new development and have received information about the AICC in-charge of Manipur meeting with the CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh, former Speaker Th. Lokeshore, MLA Meghachandra and other Congress leaders.
After the first round meeting of Congress MLAs and party leaders separately, the AICC leader Bhakta Charna Das as well as the CLP leader Okram Ibobi didn’t comment to the reporters waiting outside. However, MLA Meghachandra while talking to the media said that there will be a meeting at Congress Bhavan and a final decision taken will be announced at 11 am tomorrow. He said even though Govindas may have tender resignation from the post of president but he is still a primary member of the Congress party.
A source said that a CLP meeting is likely to convene in the evening today to discuss the issue.
