Imphal, Aug 23,

After 86 days of total shut down which put to halt all academic activities in the Manipur University after the Manipur University Community including MUSU, MUTA and MUSA went on strike demanding removal of AP Pandey on alleged misappropriation of VC office of the Manipur University, the Administrative block of the Manipur University which was locked since June 30 has been opened today in the presence of some civil society leaders.

President of the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) unlocked the main gate of the Administrative block of the University today morning.

An air of joy seems to by breezing inside the Manipur University complex with the restoration of the academic activities but not everyone could feel the joy as there is still apprehension to the part of the MHRD to their sincerity.

A highly reliable source said that the resolution to open the University was taken after hectic deliberation to the nature of the order issued by the Ministry of Human resources and development after the signing of the MoA on August 16 this year in the presence of the Chief Minister of Manipur.

On August 17 an order as per the agreement signed between the representatives of the MHRD and MU Community representative the 3 member fact finding committee has been reconstituted as the 2 member enquiry committee head by an acting chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court with a member – a retired Vice Chancellor from the Tezpur University.

However, the air is still gloomy as two important agreed point has been skipped. And as the MU Community was all set to resume the agitation. It was the Registrar in charge of the Manipur University Shyamkishwor that the issued an office memorandum stating the MoA was approved by the Minister of MHRD. The Office memorandum fails to convince the MU community but than the VC in Charge Prof. Vishwanath appealed to the MU community to resume the academic atmosphere in the form af an appeal finally put all the community to a second though.

Neither the VC in Charge nor the Registrar in charge could produce any order from the MHRD which stated that the MoA signed on August 16 was approved by the MHRD. Still than as a office memorandum was released and with pressure from various students who are waiting for their examination result the MU community finally resumed.

The source with the Imphal Times also said that MU community will do all the needful reply to any kind of tricks by the MHRD in the influence of AP Pandey.

The Right hand man of AP Pandey , i.e. Registrar in Charge Shyamkishwor is likely to be removed from the post before the 2 member enquiry committee began their work.
