African Swine Flu alert: Kakching district declared as ‘control area’, bans sales of pork

Following the confirmation of positive cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs in the Pig Breeding Farm, Hiyanglam, Kakching district on Friday by the District Veterinary Office, the district administration of Kakching district has declared its jurisdiction as a ‘control area’, banning the movement of pigs as well as selling of pork, pig, feed and related items.
In an order issued by the deputy Commissioner Kakching district, Somorjit Salam, IAS, it is stated that the containment measures are being taken up in view of the impending threat of the disease (ASF) to prevent the spread of the disease in the area. The district has been declared ‘control area’ under Section 6 of “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act, 2002”.
Under Section 17 of the act – No Pig shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area and no pig, pork, feed, and related items are banned for sale in the district.
