ACS Anurag Bajpai reviews Imphal Airport Terminal Project; December 2026 deadline reiterated

Additional Chief Secretary (Transport & TCI), Anurag Bajpai, on Saturday conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing construction of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) and allied infrastructure at Imphal International Airport, directing all concerned agencies to meet the project completion deadline of December 31, 2026.
The review meeting, held at the Airports Authority of India project office, covered key components including the terminal building, apron, approach road from the National Highway, power and water supply, and other associated works.
The meeting was attended by Transport Director Khumanthem Diana Devi, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West Mayanglambam Rajkumar, Superintendent of Police of Imphal West, senior officials of the Airports Authority of India, and representatives from PWD, MPDCL, CISF, and the project team.
Officials informed that construction has resumed in full swing since the last review held in December 2025, after facing delays due to multiple challenges, including conflict-related disruptions. The NITB project has achieved around 50 per cent physical progress so far.
Taking stock of the pace of work, Anurag Bajpai instructed all executing agencies to strictly adhere to the timeline and ensure completion of the terminal building, apron, and essential infrastructure such as power and water supply within the stipulated Project Delivery Commitment.
The Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West and PWD officials were directed to expedite the Social Impact Assessment process linked to land acquisition for the approach road to the airport.
The meeting also discussed strengthening regional air connectivity. The Transport Department, in coordination with the Airports Authority of India, held discussions with Alliance Air for early introduction of flight services on the Imphal–Silchar route, while also exploring expansion of connectivity to Dibrugarh.
Following the review, Anurag Bajpai inspected the upcoming Cargo Terminal and directed officials to complete installation of equipment and make the facility operational by April 30, 2026. He stressed the need for close coordination among agencies to ensure timely execution of works and improved air connectivity in the region.
