Academic Discourse on Foundational stage under NEP 2020 held

In a bid to delve into the nuances of early childhood education as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, an academic discourse was held at the JN Dance Academy in Imphal on Friday. The event was organised by the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools’ Welfare Association (AMRPSWA), Bishnupur District Recognised Private Schools’ Association (BDRPSA), Private Schools’ Development Council, Thoubal (PSDC), United Association of Recognised Schools’ of Manipur (UARSOM) and Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM).
The primary objective of the discussion was to deliberate on effective strategies for implementing the foundation stage of education under the NEP 2020 within the state. Attendees engaged in rigorous discussions, analyzing the policy’s implications and charting a course forward tailored to Manipur’s unique educational landscape.
Various facets of early childhood education, including curriculum design, teacher training, infrastructure development, and parental involvement, were scrutinized in depth.
Participants emphasized the critical role of the foundation stage in shaping children’s cognitive, emotional, and social development, laying the groundwork for their academic journey.
President of DESAM Mayengbam Somorjit underscored the need for collaborative efforts between government bodies, educational institutions, and community stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of NEP 2020’s vision for early childhood education. He emphasized the importance of localized approaches that take into account Manipur’s diverse linguistic and cultural heritage.
Various research scholars- A. Sobita Devi (Lecture DIET Moirang, SCERT), Diana Thangjam (Assistant Program Officer, RTE, SSA), Pratibha Khoiyumthem (CDPO, Chandel, Department of Social Welfare), Namoijan Tomba (Advisor, AMRPSWA), Joy Khuman (UARSOM), Salam Jotin (Secretary, Private Schools’ Development Council, Thoubal district), Dr. R.K. Bijen (Principal Iboyombi Institute of Education) and resources person from Manipur University and Directorate of University & Higher Education)- discussed on the identification of key challenges and actionable recommendations regarding early childhood education under the NEP 2020.
