The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Imphal Mahanagar, organised a marathon at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Saturday to mark International Women’s Day, drawing participation from more than 1,000 runners.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Khelo Bharat and Khelo India under the theme “Screen Time to Running Time,” encouraging students and youth to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle through sports and physical activity.
The marathon featured two categories — a 15 km run and a 7 km Women Empowerment Run — with participation from runners, students, sportspersons and fitness enthusiasts from different parts of the state.
In the 15 km men’s category, Kengimlungheing secured the first position, while Kh. Zabed Hussain and Chuchangmeren Ao finished second and third respectively. In the 15 km women’s category, L. Tutu clinched the first position, followed by Ky. Jamuni and Shonchuihan Kasar. In the 7 km Women Empowerment Run, T. Rusia secured the first position, T. Sophiya finished second and W. Bidyalaxmi came third.
The programme was attended by Minister for Home and Youth Affairs and Sports Konthoujam Govindas as chief guest. BJP Manipur president A. Sharda Devi, ABVP national secretary Kamlesh Singh and Youth Affairs and Sports department secretary Naorem Praveen Singh attended as guests of honour. The programme was presided over by ABVP Manipur state president Prof. Premlata Meisnam.
