Imphal, September 26: The person who had hijacked a Bullet Proof Vehicle issued to Manipur Police Commando and killed the driver of the vehicle turn out to be another state security force belonging 6 IRB. A reliable source identified the killer hijacker as one Thangchingson, a rifleman of the 6th IRB presently attached witah the 1st IRB. He is a personnel escort of MLA Chaltolian Amo. The source added that the MP-5 automatic gun used by the person has been stolen by him which was kept under the custody of a Jamandar identified as Raju.
The driver who was shot dead by the IRB man has been identified as Elangbam Joy (35) from Samurou area. The Commando Vehicle with trade mark Rakshak CDO – 20 was left at Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai and police found the vehicle at around 9.30 pm. The dead body of the driver was found inside the vehicle.
The Commando vehicle was kidnapped by overpowering the driver at around 8.30 pm from PCTC oil depot area by the gunman. Dead body of the driver has been conducted post mortem at JNIMS morgue and handed over to family member late today evening.
Police team are conducting search operation of the hijacker at Kshetrigao area since last night. All exit routes has been alerted and security measures has been strengthened.
