Abducted woman rescued in Kamjong, says Assam Rifles

Assam Rifles on Friday stated that a woman allegedly abducted by KNA(B) militants and Village Volunteers Eastern Zone (VVEZ) from Namlee village in Kamjong district was safely rescued following coordinated operations by security agencies.
According to a statement issued by Assam Rifles, the woman, identified as Olina Ningshen, was released south of Z Choro village near the incident area under the supervision of Assam Rifles personnel along with intelligence and other agencies.
The force stated that the woman’s husband, village headman and representatives of civil society organisations were taken to Humine police station near the handover point after the area was secured. Following medical examination and documentation at the Assam Rifles unit headquarters in Chassad, the family and accompanying representatives returned safely to Khangpat Khunou village.
The statement said unrest was reported on May 7 near Z Choro and opposite Namlee along the Indo-Myanmar border, following which Assam Rifles launched rescue and sanitisation operations in the area.
Security personnel reportedly evacuated civilians from affected areas, rescued 15 villagers including women and children, and provided humanitarian and medical assistance at Aloyo Assam Rifles camp.
During subsequent search operations in Churachandpur district, Assam Rifles also apprehended an alleged KNA(B) cadre identified as Lal Thag John, 38, along with a weapon, magazine and ammunition. The individual was later handed over to local police authorities.
Assam Rifles stated that intensified patrolling and area domination operations are continuing in sensitive parts of Kamjong district to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
