Imphal, November 11: A team of All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union, AAMSU Monday submitted a memorandum to Manipur Government regarding various problems facing by the Manipuris settling in Assam and other states.AAMSU team led by its president Seram Herajit and Secretary General Pangambam Nilakanta submitted the memorandum. With the Chief Minister being out of station, the AAMSU team’s earlier plan to hold talk with the state government regarding various issues could not be fulfilled. They met the Forest and Environment Minister Thoudam Devendra to whom a copy of the memorandum was also submitted. Khurai MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, RK Ranendrajit editor Freedom also attended the meeting.In the memorandum submitted by AAMSU, the student body urges the government to Construct a Manipuri Bhavan at Silchar, Rongpur, Completion of the state’s lifeline national highway 37 on time and launching of a full fledged Satellite Manipuri TV channel.For the last ten years, AAMSU have been demanding the government to construct Manipuri Bhavan at Silchar Rongpur which is of utmost importance in the light of the Trans Asian Highway. Despite the state government has got land allotment from the Assam Government for construction of such a Manipuri Bhavan at Silchar, government has failed to take up any necessary action to this effect. Delay in construction of the Bhavan may lead to cancellation of the allotment orderby the Assam Government, AAMSU president Herajit said while adding that the Bhavan will facilitate the People of Manipur and Assam travelling along the NH 37.He said that National Highay 37 which is the lifeline of Manipur is in a deplorable condition with the concerned authority paying no heed to the national highway. BRO which is in charge of construction work of the NH 37 has failed to complete the road construction within a stipulated time despite various appeals from the general public. As such, AAMSU is compelled to urge the state government to speed up the road construction within a stipulated time in public interest.Minister Th Devendra assured that the AAMSU team that he would refer the demand of the student body to Chief Minster when he comes back Imphal . he also confided the team that he would discuss with Chief Minister regarding construction of Manipur Bhavan at Silchar as special case.In the aftermath of meeting with Minister Th Devendra, the team also met Works Minister Dr Ratankumar Singh who also confided that he would apprise the matter to CM.
