Mumbai, Mar 11:

A 68-year-old man was arrested by police for “raping” a community dog in Juhu Galli area of Andheri West in North East Mumbai after being approached by an animal welfare NGO with a video of the act.
The accused Ahmed Shahi was booked under sections 429, 377 of IPC and Sections 11(1), 11 (1) (2) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. He admitted to having sex with multiple dogs over a period of time.
Shahi was arrested on Tuesday night based on a complaint by Vijay Mohanani of NGO Bombay Animal Rights, who produced a video of the accused sexually abusing a dog. Basically the video was shot in December last year by his neighbour Aslam Shaikh who has been urging him to desist from this unnatural act since long. However since he continued the act, Aslam forwarded the video of the act to Mohnani.
The accused Shahi is a vegetable vendor in the area and is well off. Persons from his family had earlier beaten up Aslam for shooting the act and had also broken his phone. Luckily the video was still available on some device.
Shahi is a local feeder to whom people have donated dog and cat food. At night he would sexually assault the dogs he regularly fed by luring them with food. Since the animal had a relationship of trust and loyalty with him, she would not attack him. “We will be trying to identify the dogs in the area who have been sexually assaulted and get them medical aid,” Mohanani said.
It may be recalled that in October last, one person was arrested for raping, a community dog in Powai in northeast Mumbai. The accused had inserted an 11-inch wooden stick inserted in private parts of that dog assuming that she was pregnant and may give birth to his child. The dog was in a critical condition with serious injuries. Similarly another person was arrested on charges of raping a community dog near Nerul railway station in Navi Mumbai last year.
