In a notable political development ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, as many as 92 households from Khongsang village and adjoining areas in 54-Nungba Assembly Constituency have shifted allegiance from the Bharatiya Janata Party to the Indian National Congress.
The mass joining programme, organised by the Khongsang Unit Congress, drew a large gathering of party workers and local residents. Former BJP leaders and workers formally joined the Congress during the event, signalling a shift in grassroots political support in the constituency.
New entrants, addressing the gathering, stated that they would work towards strengthening the Congress and extended support to Adai Phaomei, the party’s intending candidate for 54-Nungba Assembly Constituency.
Senior Congress leaders present at the event included Adai Phaomei, who also serves as President of the District Congress Committee for Tamenglong and Noney, along with other office-bearers of the party’s district and block units.
In his address, Phaomei welcomed the new members and called for collective efforts to advance development and political objectives in the constituency. He also appreciated the local Congress unit for organising the programme.
