6 houses damaged in erosion of Jiri river bank

Around  6 houses were gobbled up by the erosion of the left bank of the Jiri River in Jiribam district. Affected residents have started shifting to safer places since Sunday morning as the river is gulping chunks of land every hour.
Sources said the Jiri river had started eroding land at the back side of Jiribam bazaar area on Sunday morning which affected 4 families and rented-2  houses.
After getting the information, the district administration took up prompt action and sifted the affected families and their belongings to safer places. The erosion that we have been witnessing since today morning. Within a short period, 6 houses in rows collapsed into the river. 
It might be recalled here that, a few years back river embankment was erected for the anti-erosion at the Jiri river bank but unfortunately most of the embankment collapsed, and locals expected erosion to take place in the areas.
