4 Trinamool Congress MLAs of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today leaved their party and joined the Indian National Congress today. President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee TN Haokip had approved the joining of the 4 MLAs to the INC.
The four MLAs are Thounaojam Shyamkumar of Andro Assembly Constituency, Dr. Irengbam Ibohalbi of Oinam Assembly Constituency, Konthoujam Sharat Singh of Konthoujam Assembly Constituency and Oinam Lukhoi of Wangoi Assembly constituency.
Speaking to media persons MLA Th. Shyamkumar said that they had taken the decision to leave the Trinamool Congress after the leadership of the party failed to comply with the three point demands put up by the state leadership. He said the party had urged the party leadership to bring up the issue of the frame work agreement of the GoI and NSCN-IM to let people of the country know about the truth, to assured protection of the territorial boundary of the party and also to implement the Inner Line Permit System in the state. However, none of the agenda has been taken interest by the Trinamool Congress leadership, so as the party has no interest to the issue of Manipur they had decided to leave the party, Shyamkumar added.
Welcoming the four MLAs, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that the four MLAs have been providing coordination to the state government since they have been elected to the state Legislative Assembly. He said with the joining of the four MLAs the INC will be more popular in the upcoming election. Ibobi further said that those who are joining the BJP are opportunity hunters who keep on changing the party flag each time for mere gain. He said BJP is like a bubble which cannot survived for long.
