The Manipuri Language Day (Manipuri Lon-Gi Numit) was observed today at the Hall of the Grace Cottage Cultural and Educational Development Foundation, organised by Macha Chanu Kakching.
Former president of Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching, Kengba Yengkhom, attended the programme as Chief Guest, while president of Macha Chanu Kakching, Dr. Nongmaithem Pramodini, as President. Secretary of Sahitya Seva Samiti, Ksh. Joykumar, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
As part of the event, N. Birohini delivered a lecture on the theme “Manipuri Lon Da Pirakpa Cheitheng.” The programme also featured poetry recitals presented by students of Grace Cottage Academy.
The 34th Manipuri Language Day was also observed today at the Conference Hall of CI College, Bishnupur, with a solemn programme that brought together faculty, students, and scholars to reflect on the importance of preserving and promoting the Manipuri language.
The event was graced by the Principal of the college, Professor Dr. RK Rajeshwari, as Chief Guest, while Head of the Physics Department Associate Professor Dr. Th. Nando, Head of the Economics Department Dr. Ch. Sharat, and IQAC Coordinator Dr. Nivanonee attended as dignitaries.
In her address, Principal Professor Dr. RK Rajeshwari reminded that the inclusion of Manipuri in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution marked a historic achievement, as it granted the language recognition as one of the official languages of the country. She noted that this status enables students to choose Manipuri as an optional subject in various competitive examinations. Dr. Rajeshwari stressed that observing Manipuri Language Day is not only about celebrating the milestone of Eighth Schedule recognition but also about remembering the sacrifices, collective struggles, and efforts of the people who made it possible.
Delivering her speech, Head of the Manipuri Department, Dr. Ch. Kiranbala, described Manipuri as one of the world’s ancient and rich languages with a vast body of literature and vocabulary.
