Education Minister of the state, M. Okendro, today said that 318 lecturers (both regular and part time) are posted in the colleges of Hill Districts of Manipur.
He said this while answering a starred question raised by Samuel Risom, MLA of Ukhrul AC during the question hour of the ongoing Budget Session of the 10 Manipur Legislative Assembly.
In his answer M. Okendro continued that there are 1682 lecturers including part-time lecturers in 28 Government Colleges of the state. Giving the reason of posting less number of lecturers in the Hills, he said that out of 28 Government Colleges of the state only 7 colleges are in Hill Districts. Of these 67 lecturers are posted at Churachandpur College, Churachandpur, 30 are posted at Lamka College, Churachandpur while 68, 33,38 lecturers are posted at United College, Chandel, Tamenglong College, Tamenglong and Pettigrew College, Ukhrul respectively. Presidency College, Motbung and Hill College, Tadubi have 66 and 16 lecturers respectively. Another main factor for lower ratio of lecturers in Colleges of Hill District is that 3 colleges namely Hill College, Tadubi, Tamenglong College, Tamenglong and Lamka College, Churachandpur have only Arts Stream. Besides, there is no Commerce Stream in any colleges in hill district.
Answering another question raised by Samuel Risom, M. Okendro said that no Model Primary School building is constructed in any village in the state so far.
In her answer to another question raised by the MLA of Ukhrul AC, Social Welfare Minister, AK Mirabai said that 17000 Old Age Pension Forms had been distributed during the year 2012-2013. However, no forms had been distributed in the years 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.
