At least two personnel of the 44 Assam Rifle troops were killed several others reported injured after heavily armed cadres of a rebel group suspected to be UNLF ambushed them in between Kamjong Kongkan Village under Kamjong Sub Division in Ukhrul district under Chasad Police station at around 6 am today.
Source said that, the rebels triggered an IED when troopers of 44 AR are on foot patrol along the site. Later the armed cadres’ of the proscribed group rains bullets using sophisticated weapons. The AR troopers too retaliated and as more force reinforced at the site the rebel fled. One among the injured has been identified as R B Shastra (rifleman). The two deceased AR personnel were identified as Havildar N.K Dolly and Havildar B N kshetri. A civilian person suspected to be a cadre of the UNLF was also found lying dead on the site.
Following the ambushed additional troops of AR and state force has rushed to the spot and conducted a massive search operation in the area.
