Tengnoupal, July 26: Three persons were arrested by Assam Rifles for illegally possessing a 9 mm pistol at Khudengthabi check post along Imphal-Moreh highway yesterday.
Chongtham Chittaranjan Singh, 34, son of Chongtham Indumani Singh of Changangei Mayai Leikai, Yumnam Sunder Singh, 24, son of Yumnam Nirmal Singh of Tronglaobi Makha Leikai and Naorem Arunkumar, 24, son of Naorem Manglemba of Tentha Khunou Bazar were later handed over to Moreh police for further investigation.
The trio was arrested along with a Walther 9 mm pistol along and an empty magazine by 12 Assam Rifles while checking a Chevrolet in which they were travelling around 11:30 am, police said in a release.
Police said that Chittaranjan Singh was carrying the pistol. Chittaranjan possessed a gun license but the validity ended on May 29, 2017. The gun licence did not match with the registration number the released added.
