The sacrifices being made by the Manipur People’s Army (MPA) is for the people of the state and will never go against the wishes of the public- this was stated in a message released by Khundongbam Pambei, Chairman, Military Affairs Committee, United National Liberation Front (UNLF) on the occasion of the 28th foundation day observation of the proscribed group today. Greeting the people of the state, the statement emphasized that the most important concern for a group or community existing on its own territory is the reclamation and preservation of independence and freedom of that group, while iterating the declared pledge of the party to work with dedication and integrity according to the aspirations and wishes of the people. Condemning the mindset being engineered by the state government of depending on the centre for assistances and freebies thereby keeping the ideas of self-determination and self reliance from taking root in the minds of the public, the release admits the crucial importance of the involvement and support, either in a proactive manner or indirectly, of the people of Manipur in its struggle for freedom and independence from Indian rule. While saluting the slain members of the party and expressing solidarity with those who have been the victims of excesses of the Indian occupational force, the statement disclosed the changing techniques of the army, such as the civic action programme which is employed to win the trust of the public.
