24-hour general strike from 19 June

All Manipur Selected Special Employment Generation Programme (SEGP) Beneficiaries Committee have announced a 24- hour general strike in Manipur from midnight of June 19. However, there will be relaxation for religious matters and those engaged in essential services. The announcement was made by Zakir Hussain, General Secretary of the Committee at a press meet held at the Manipur Press Club today. The general strike is being called due to the failure of the state government to entertain its demand of waiving loans to the beneficiaries of the Special Employment Generation Program launched by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 20/12/204, and also to release funds under the program without delay. the Program was launched at the historic Kangla Fort when Manmohan Singh was in the state capital for handing over the fort to the people of Manipur after being occupied by the  security forces for years.
