A 24-hour statewide bandh called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed in connection with the alleged custodial death of Khoisnam Sanajaoba alias Ibungo, brought daily life to a grinding halt across the valley districts. All business establishments remained shut, and commercial vehicles stayed off the roads, with only a few private vehicles seen moving.
The bandh drew a massive public response, as large numbers of people came out to block highways and roads at various points. Major markets such as Ima Keithel, Lamlong Keithel, and Thangal Keithel remained completely closed. Private transport services including Diesel Autos, e-Autos, Winger, and Magic also ceased operations. Educational institutions and financial establishments were shut down, while government offices recorded extremely low attendance.
It may be mentioned that Sanajaoba was arrested on March 31 along with four others for alleged links with the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) – Noyon-Military Leader Faction. He was later remanded to Manipur Central Jail in Sajiwa on April 10. However, he was admitted to a hospital and was declared dead shortly after. In protest against what they described as a custodial death, the JAC called for a total shutdown starting from the intervening night of April 24 and 25.
