Police had picked up 20 people including a brother former Minister Md. Alauddin Khan for allegedly selling a public property at Keirao area in Imphal East district on Monday. Md. Leihauddin Khan, brother of the former Minister allegedly sold a community pond located at the adjoining site between Urup and Keirao by altering the ownership to one R K (age 35), son of Apik of Keirao Makting for a sum of Rs. 4 lakh.
Police picked up 20 people involved in the fraudulent activities after locals of Keirao filed a complaint to Lamlai Police station regarding the matter.
A large people from Urup and Keirao area stormed at Leihauddin’s Kyamgei residence to talk about the selling of the community pond and ask him to return the money that he took from RK. However, he ran away from his home and took shelter at a neighbour’s house along with 7 (seven) others.The enraged mob pelted stones and even tried to burn down the house when Leihauddin and his friends refused to come out of the house. Police failed to control the mob and a large convoy comprising Imphal East Additional SP, T Manjit; SDPO, Ramgopal; Reserve Police’s John and OC of Manipur Police Commandos Imphal East, Vaiphei rushed at the spot. After around 2 hours of rage and fury, the police managed to control the mob.Later, locals of Keirao and Kyamgei convened a public meeting and resolved to ostracize Leihauddin, RK and Sattar from the area.
