2 kg suspected Heroin No. 4 seized in Imphal, two arrested

Security forces seized approximately two kilograms of suspected Heroin No. 4 and arrested two persons during a vehicle interception at Porompat on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Manipur Police Control Room, the four-wheeler was intercepted at Porompat, leading to the arrest of Bigyan Baniya (21) of Tuilangphai in Kangpokpi district and Manoj Chettry (27) of Kohima, Nagaland. During the search, security personnel recovered 168 soap cases containing suspected Heroin No. 4 weighing approximately two kilograms. The vehicle used for transporting the contraband was also seized.

The police said intelligence-based combing, cordon and search operations are being intensified across the state to crack down on extortion networks and other criminal activities.

In a separate operation on June 30, security forces arrested an alleged active cadre of the National United Movement (NUM), Sairem Bolex Singh alias Pamel (26) of Yurembam Mayai Leikai, from Sagoltongba Makha Leikai under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district on charges of extortion.

On July 1, Manipur Police also arrested an alleged active cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Oinam Kalajit alias Yaikhomba Singh (55) of Ngairangbam Mayai Leikai, from the Toubungkhok area under Patsoi Police Station.

The Police Control Room that the movement of 531 vehicles carrying essential commodities along NH-37 was facilitated under security escort, while 115 nakas and checkpoints were established across the hill and valley districts to strengthen security.
