With the Inner Manipur Parliamentary election looming just 16 days away, and the Outer’s just 23 days to go, campaign for both the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gaining momentum with hundreds of workers seen engaging in poll preparation meeting at the respective offices here in Imphal.
At the Congress Bhavan, K. Meghachandra, the President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), spearheaded the poll preparation campaign for the INC candidate, Bimol Akoijam. Speaking to supporters of Bimol Akoijam, Meghachandra highlighted the significance of his candidacy, asserting that he wasn’t merely representing the Congress party but stood as a voice for the people of Manipur. Meghachandra emphasized that Bimol Akoijam’s victory would be a triumph for the populace, transcending party affiliations. Despite challenges due to ongoing conflicts in the state, hundreds of INC supporters rallied behind Bimol Akoijam, intensifying the grassroots campaign efforts.
On the other front, Meghachandra noted that Alfred K. Arthur, the INC candidate for the outer parliamentary constituency, was backed by the Congress and supported by the political parties forming the I.N.D.I.Aliance.
Simultaneously, at the BJP Manipur Pradesh office, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh led the poll preparation campaign for the BJP candidate, Th. Basantakumar. Singh, addressing a gathering predominantly comprised of women supporters, urged the people of Manipur to vote for safeguarding the interests of the state. The meeting, organized by the Mahila Morcha, Manipur Pradesh at the BJP Office, showcased the enthusiasm and determination of the party members. Chief Minister Singh reiterated the commitment to serving Manipur with dedication and integrity, expressing his sentiments on social media platform “X”. “It is heartening to witness the enthusiasm and determination within the Mahila Morcha as we collectively strive towards our shared goals. Today, as we prepare for the Lok Sabha Election, let us reaffirm our commitment to serving the people of Manipur with dedication and integrity”, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh wrote.
A. Sarda Devi, the President of the BJP Manipur Pradesh, along with other party leaders, actively participated in the poll preparation meeting.
As the electoral battleground heats up, six candidates are in contention for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election, scheduled on April 19 and April 26. While Independent candidate RK Somerendro @ Kaiku and RPI (Athawale) candidate Maheshwar Thounaojam have garnered notable support, the anticipated closely contested battle is expected between the INC candidate Bimol Akoijam and BJP candidate Th. Bashantakumar.
