A committee formed to commemorate the historic ‘seven years of devastation’, is all set to observe the death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh ( Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba) as 181st Reconciliation Day. In a press conference held today at the office of the United Peoples’ Front, UPF at Keishampat today afternoon president of the organization DM Yaima, who is also the representative of the committee said that the 181st Reconciliation day will be observed as a mark of tribute to the courage of the King who had struggled even to the cost of his life for protecting the freedom of the nation. He said when the Awas invaded the erstwhile kingdom of Manipur, Maharaj Gambhir Singh went to Cachar and with the help of the British and march toward Manipur again to drive out the Awas occupancy in the year 1825. The Maharajah organised 500 soldiers and March towards Imphal as Manipur levy and restored the freedom of the land.
