The 14th National Voters’ Day was observed today under the theme ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure’ at the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer Manipur, Lamphelpat. The programme was organized by Chief Electoral Officer Manipur.
Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, MH Khan Additional Chief Secretary, and PK Jha Chief Electoral Officer Manipur attended the function as Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, and President respectively.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest Dr. Vineet Joshi encouraged the new voters to cast their vote in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. He appealed to the young new voters to be alert, know the value of voting, and come out and participate in the elections. Chief Guest also administered the Oath of National Voters’ Day pledge to the gathering.
Speaking at the function, Additional Chief Secretary MH Khan said that the constitution has given us the right to elect our leader. If we do not choose the correct leader, our future will be spoiled. He appealed to the voters to use their rights wisely.
President of the function, PK Jha said National Voter’s Day is the celebration of voters especially for first-time voters. He said that it is the right bestowed to us by the Constitution. He appreciated the District Election Officers, Returning Officers, BLOs, and other officials of the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur for successful Electoral Summary Revision 2023-24. He also said that a survey was conducted in partnership with Manipur Technical University regarding knowledge, aptitude, and practices of election.
The message of Chief Election Commissioner of India, Rajiv Kumar was screened during the function, which was followed by the presentation of EPIC cards and badges to the newly enrolled voters.
Appreciation Certificates and Best Electoral Practices Awards 2024 were conferred to District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, and Returning Officers for their exemplary performances.
National Voters’ Day is being observed to promote and encourage the youth to participate in voter registration, especially among new or first-time voters. The day has been celebrated since 2011 across the country to mark the foundation of the Election Commission of India i.e, 25th January, 1950.
At Imphal East, on the occasion of the 14th National Voters Day, Khumanthem Diana, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East, stressed the significance of responsible voting for individuals aged 18 and above at the DC Office Complex in Porompat.
Khumanthem Diana encouraged voters to exercise their rights judiciously by selecting candidates dedicated to the welfare and development of the community. She emphasized the importance of avoiding influence from monetary considerations or emotions while casting votes. Diana asserted that voters play a crucial role in shaping the future of their society, and their choices should reflect a commitment to progress.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the theme for this year’s National Voting Day celebration as “Nothing Like Voting, I vote for sure.” The event was organized by the District Election Officer, Imphal East, and aimed at promoting a vibrant democratic process.
As elections occur once every five years, Diana urged citizens to consider the long-term impact of their choices, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with the right to vote. The celebration served as a platform to reinforce the ideals of democracy and civic duty.
The District Election Office, Senapati celebrated the 14th National Voters’ Day today at Multipurpose Hall, opposite to DC Office, Senapati under the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure”.
Addressing the gathering, PP Ronald, MCS, Additional District Election Officer/ Additional District Magistrate, Senapati stated that the main objective of celebrating National Voters’ Day is to educate and spread awareness to young and newly enrolled voters who have attained the age of 18. He also stated that National Voters Day began its celebration in 2011 coincides with the foundation of the Election Commission of India. He said that the electoral roll which has already been revised and published by January 22 will be made available at respective EROs and Election offices. He also said that the observation of this event is to increase electoral enrolment and value the vote of every individual. He also appealed to both old and young voters to encourage friends and families around to exercise voting rights while choosing a leader for tomorrow.
He also congratulated Mamoni Doley, IAS, District Election Officer/ DC Senapati, Plim Reikhenamai, 47- Karong (ST) AC ERO/ SDO Purul and S. Lunguiba Thangal, 49- Tadubi (ST) AC ERO/ SDO Senapatifor receiving award of best DEO & ERO’s at the Office of CEO, Manipur for their outstanding contribution in the Special Summary Revision- 2024.
In the later of the programme, ADM Senapati administered the National Voters’ Day pledge to the young voters and member present.
During the programme, altogether 18 EPICs were handed over to the young voters and differently-abled persons along with souvenirs by Sheveine, MCS, and SDO Phaibung. ADM, Senapati also handed the best BLO award to 3 constituencies, namely B.S. Hopeson Pao of 47 Karong (ST) AC, B. Komuhra of 48 Mao (ST) AC and K Paul of 49 Tadubi (ST) AC.
It may be mentioned that National Voters’ Day is observed at every sub-divisional block and polling station with the distribution of EPICs.
The programme was attended by SDOs, SDCs, DLOs, BLOs, students, youth volunteers and political party representatives.
