134th Durand Cup Trophy Tour begins in Imphal with Grand Ceremony

The Imphal chapter of the 134th Durand Cup 2025 commenced with a vibrant flag-off ceremony of the Trophy Tour and Road Show from the picturesque Sendra at Loktak Lake, Manipur. The event was flagged off by Indian weightlifting icon and Padma Shri awardee Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, setting an inspiring tone for one of Asia’s oldest and most prestigious football tournaments.
Organised by the Indian Army with support from the Manipur government, the Trophy Tour will pass through prominent locations across Imphal city and conclude at the City Convention Centre. A formal Trophy Showcasing Ceremony is scheduled to be held there in the esteemed presence of the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh.
The flag-off event witnessed the presence of senior army officials, members of the Bishnupur District Administration, and dignitaries from the state government.
Addressing the gathering, Mirabai Chanu expressed deep appreciation for selecting Manipur as one of the host cities, particularly during a time of hardship for the state. She described the occasion as a proud moment and called it a significant opportunity for local football fans. She remarked that hosting such a historic tournament would serve as a source of inspiration for the youth of Manipur.
Praising the achievements of Manipuri footballers in the national arena, she noted that they have consistently brought honour to Indian football. She encouraged aspiring athletes to stay committed to sports with discipline, sacrifice, and hard work — principles she credited for her own journey to success.
The 134th edition of the Durand Cup is being hosted across five Indian cities — Kolkata, Shillong, Jamshedpur, Kokrajhar, and Imphal. In Imphal, Group F matches will feature teams including TRAU FC, NEROCA FC, INDIAN NAVY FT, and REAL KASHMIR FC. These matches will be played at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on July 30, August 1, 4, 7, 10, and 12, with each match scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
Football enthusiasts in the region are looking forward to the tournament, which promises thrilling encounters and a showcase of top-tier football talent from across the country.
