Thousands of Manipuri took part in the 9th Mega Marathon Manipur on Sunday morning. The marathon with the theme of ‘run for your nation run the mega marathon’ was organised by United People’s Front (UPF), Manipur under the auspices of Athletic Association of Manipur.
The marathon was flagged off by Kh. Ratankumar, works and transport, Manipur. It started from Khuman Lampak main stadium which snaked through DM College road, Nagamapal, RIMS Road, Naoremthong, Tera, Kwakeithel, Pishum, Singjamei, Kongba Road, Ayangpali Road, Lamlong and then concluded at the main stadium.
Th. Sanjit Luwang, son of Ibohal of Yairipok Bishnu Naha came at first position for male category. Sanjit is currently working as an Indian Army for the Assam regiment and has participated in Mega Marathon for six times. He had earlier achieved 1st position in 3000 meters staple chess competition held at Hyderabad. The second position holder of the 9th Mega Marathon in male category was Oinam Sanaton, son of (l) Natum of Oinam residency. Sanaton too is currently working in Indian Army for the Assam regiment.
For eight times, Sagolsem Premila stood first position for female category in Mega Marathon Manipur. Premila, daughter of S. Yaima who is a resident of Yairipok Kekru Mayai Leikai had earlier participated in various competitions and received 30 medals till now. NK Minarashi, daughter of Md. Nasiuddin of Yairipok Tulihal Mayai Leikai held second position in the 9th Mega Marathon.
Rs. 30,000 cash award was distributed to the 1st position holders of the Marathon, Rs. 20,000 to the second position holders and Rs. 15,000 to the third position holders.
