A VDF personnel attached at Imphal City police station succumbed to his injury after his fellow colleague thrashed him over an argument while on duty on the evening of June 26 at Alu Galli in Khwairamband Keithel. The deceased has been identified as Okram Athoi @ Mani (age 35), son of O Lukhoi of Lillong Chajing Mamang leikai and the accused VDF person who thrashed him has been identified as one Suresh Singh. Police has arrested him in this connection.
According to report, the deceased VDF Athoi was found lying at Allu Galli on that evening by one of his colleague Somorjit, another VDF personnel. Somorjit reportedly took him at City Police station and other police personnel thinking that he was drunk let him spend the night at the police station. On the following day he was evacuated at RIMS casualty. He succumbed to his injury at around 5 pm of June 28. While undergoing treatment Athoi reportedly told about the incident to his sister-in-law Chaoba.
Following the report of his demise, a public meeting was held today at Lillong Chajing Mamang Leikai today morning and a JAC against the dead of the Athoi as formed. The meeting demanded appropriate action to the officer on duty of city police station who did not take him to hospital even after knowing that he a seriously injured. The JAC further demanded action against the accused VDF personnel. It also threaten of serious agitation if the govt. fail to fulfil the demand within 24 hours.
