On Suicide Prevention Day

The World today observed Suicide Prevention Day. ‘Connect, communicate, care’ is the theme of the 2016 World Suicide Prevention Day .
The debate over whether suicide is a crime punishable or not still is a hot topic for law makers, but the fact is that suicide is a serious issue for every state. The nature of suicide committed sometimes has potential to impact the government giving room for the opponent political party to strike hard at them. It is also a break down to the government effort in keeping a harmonious undisturbed and equal society. Experts interpreted suicide as a case with mental health related issues. They have scientific explanation for saying so. But in most case of suicide the suicidal tendency was implanted with the failure of the ruling government in maintaining a harmonious society. This is being said so as the mental state of a person is directly related with the state of the law and order conditions of that society.
In India suicide or attempt to suicide is a crime. Section 309 in the Indian Penal Code lays down the punishment for attempted suicide. The maximum punishment which can be awarded is imprisonment for a term of 1 year.
 However in December, 2014, acting on the recommendation of the Law Commission, India government had put up matters to drop attempt suicide as a crime punishable by prison. However, the matter is encircled with few lots of complexity as there are some decriminalizing factors with mental health care bill.
A report from the World Health Organisation said that India recorded the highest suicide case in 2012. The International body in its report stated that one person was found committed suicide every 40 seconds globally. The World Health Organization also estimates that over 800,000 people die by suicide each year – that’s one person every 40 seconds.
As according to India government record a total of 134,799 people committed suicide in 2013.
Suicide in various part of India happens mostly because of their socio economic condition. Every years 100 of farmers committed suicide after unable to bear the debt. Many suicide case are also reported after parents are not unable to pay dowry for their daughters. This means that socio economic factors are also a main root for suicide case in India.
Even though exact statistic record of suicide case in Manipur is not available at the moment newspaper reports reveals that suicide occurred in the state even though the number may be low. But most suicide cases are related with domestic violence or say brutality against women, as most suicides are committed by women. It does not mean that there are records of man committing suicide but this kind of suicide are psychopathic in nature.
Various religious books suggest of a life after death, at which there is not concrete scientific evidences. Even if there is a life after death there has not been a single evidence of men or women being born again in the next birth. There is also not a single event at which a person remembers his past life, which literary means that even if one believes that there is a life after that the joy of being born as human being will be lost forever.
Being born has to be died one day, but committing suicide is done by only cowards who fail to understand the joy of being born as human being. On this day let us all live a life and not end it as your passing away may shed tears to thousands of your well wishers.
