The only way out

Where do we go from here? – a question materializing from the confusions and doubts lingering in most of our minds. We are not going anywhere literally- an overlapping of bandhs and blockades in a single day is nothing uncommon in our state today. It has become the weapon of choice for voicing one’s grievances and demands. Never mind the fallouts- the effect on the lives everyone. What matters is one’s satisfaction. This time- proven mentality also goes for the powers that be of the State who are also to be made responsible for the unrest and disturbances disrupting our society and keeping us from pursuing things that could have made our lives a little better. The studied silence- the weapon of choice for the Government who has developed a knack for letting the fire burn itself out has contributed in no small measure in creating this atmosphere of neglect and alienation of the common people from the powerful and influential thereby developing an imaginary yet palpable sense of distrust and misunderstanding. What could be more important for a Government than to usher in and maintain good governance? And good governance can be achieved only when the Government and the people who put them in their exalted positions in the first place can work together, doing their bit for the society. Chalking out a sustainable and amicable course of action for those who are genuinelyaffected should be of the way to go and not empty assurances and unnecessary delays in taking remedial measures which will only fuel unrest amongst them. On the other hand, any organization or association, if they have any genuine concerns or grievances, should try out other means of making the Government or anybody else for that matter, to take notice of the issue and have it remedied instead of resorting to disruptions and disturbances to others and to public property which tantamount to denial of another person’s right to exercise his freedom to carry out his duties and to lead a normal free life. Difference in ideas and opinions is an indication of the development process of the mind-how such differences are sorted out indicates the level of development. Instead of pulling back from the global race to development by covering ourselves with the shroud of hatred, mistrust and negligence, let us get these differences out of the way through negotiations and lawful means so that we can at least look a little bit further towards a better future.
