Two contradictory reports coming up in two most credential medium in connection with the issue for disqualification of 12 MLAs for holding the post of Parliamentary Secretary – online news portal ‘The Print’ reported the matter under the headline ‘EC sees ‘no ground for disqualification of 12 Manipur BJP MLAs in the office of profit case, while one of the most trusted News Agency, the Press Trust of India (PTI) report said that ‘EC never discusses privileged communication: Poll panel on Manipur office-of-profit case’. This confused the people as Congress leaders are blaming the governor of the state for carpeting the communication from the ECI. The term this act of the state as deliberate unconstitutional delay for distortion of the democracy.
N. Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur had tweeted the news report by the online news portal which stated that the ECI sees no ground for disqualification of the 12 BJP MLAs in connection with holding the post of the parliamentary secretary. This however was again reported by the PTI stating that “EC never discusses a privileged communication (with another constitutional authority).” Quoting tweets by the spokesperson of the ECI.
If the Chief Minister felt that the report by the online portal the Print is the right news then this should be officially announced in public. Because people still wonder on considering the fate of the 12 MLAs as the Supreme Court had also taken up the matter.
The issue for disqualification of the 12 BJP MLAs who held the post of parliamentary secretary has been coined by almost all leaders of the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi also gave a slashing criticism to the Manipur government during interaction with youths as a part of the election campaign.
The political theatre of Manipur is slowly coming up on the national platform for no good reason and this naturally will malign the practice of democracy in the state of Manipur.
It is high time that the Government should be bold enough to make an official statement in connection with the 12 BJP MLAs, which the Congress has been targeting for disqualification in connection with the holding of the post of the office of profit.
