Awareness on Palliative Care held

Imphal, May 15:  With an aim to multiply the importance of Palliative care in the society, Palliative Care Society, Imphal has organized an awareness walk on ‘Palliative Care’ today morning here at Imphal. The walk to spread awareness was flagged off from the front of Kangla Fort, Western Gate by the president of All Manipur Working Journalist Union, Wangkhencha Shyamjai.
The awareness walk organized under the supervision of Dr S Jugindra, Secretary of the society was lead by himself and was joined by a large number of student volunteers from JNIMS, RIMS, SHRI, DM College and other colleges.
While speaking to this reporter on Palliative care during the awareness walk, Dr Jugindra said palliative care is an approach to improve the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness.
It approaches through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs and extends support in bereavement if necessary.
The palliative care is a patient centred treatment and not a disease-focused one, he added.
He said “the care is for ourselves, every one of us, in our family or in relatives is going to need this care one day or another”.
The Walk run from Kangla Fort, Western Gate up to Indian Medical Association (IMA) Hall after passing through Flyover Bridge to Paona Bazzar to Keishampat Bridge to Waheng Leikai, Nagamapal to RIMS road.
