The Forest Department has removed illegally erected structures from the Bijoypur area of Khunou Laiching Proposed Reserved Forest and seized a truck carrying timber allegedly cut from forest land in Waithou Protected Forest.

According to the Thoubal Forest Division, the operation was conducted under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee, Indian Forest Service, and Kakching Forest Range Officer Laishram Dinesh.

Following reports that several structures had been erected illegally in the Bijoypur area of Khunou Laiching Proposed Reserved Forest, a team led by Pallel Beat Office Officer Bikramjit inspected the site and dismantled the newly constructed structures.

In a separate operation, a team from Thoubal Forest Range, while conducting routine forest patrolling, intercepted a truck loaded with timber allegedly cut from forest land in the hilly area of Waithou Protected Forest.

The Forest Department has warned that unauthorised occupation of forest land, felling of trees and construction of structures within Reserved Forest and Protected Forest areas are prohibited. It said legal cases would also be initiated against those found involved in such activities.
