A crucial tripartite meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Manipur State Home Department and the United Naga Council (UNC), along with other Naga civil society organisations, was held in Guwahati today and discuss the prevailing law-and-order situation in Manipur and measures for peace-building. Following the talk the UNC has suspended the ongoing economic blockade with effect from 6 pm today.
According to source, the Naga civil society organisations, raised up key concerns to the attack by Kuki militants to Naga civilians.
According to a press statement signed by Ng. Lorho, President UNC the ongoing blockade has been lifted with effect from 6 pm today. In the statement , the UNC said that – “upon reaching an agreement at the tripartite talks held today at Guwahati, the UNC announces to suspend the ongoing economic blockade with effect from 6:00 pm of September 26, 2026.
The Guwahati meeting assumes significance as the blockade has disrupted movement along major highways passing through Naga-inhabited areas, affecting the transportation of essential commodities into Manipur.
The engagement between the Centre, the State Government and Naga civil society organisations is being viewed as an important step towards restoring normalcy and creating conditions conducive to wider peace-building efforts in the State.
