Khanuitthot-Khon, the Voice of the Tangkhul Naga Youth, has opposed Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s proposed visit to Ukhrul on September 28, citing continuing security concerns in Naga-inhabited areas.
In a statement, the organisation said the Chief Minister is scheduled to attend a Public Service Delivery Camp in Ukhrul, with government departments directed to participate.
While acknowledging the Chief Minister’s responsibility to visit different parts of the State, Khanuitthot-Khon urged reconsideration of the visit in view of the prevailing security situation.
It cited the reported killing of two Tangkhul Nagas following the Chief Minister’s maiden Ukhrul visit on April 17 and the subsequent killing of six Liangmai Nagas. It also questioned the continued presence and activities of armed groups under the Suspension of Operations arrangement.
The organisation demanded stronger protection for Naga civilians, accountability for killings and measures to restore lasting security across Naga-inhabited areas.
