Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, former Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Tamei MLA A. Wangbow Newmai have condemned the killing of four Tangkhul civilians at Pilong village in Kamjong district on September 24.
Khemchand, in a post on the Chief Minister’s Office official X account, said such violence had no place in society and would not be tolerated. He conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and comfort for them.
Biren Singh described the killings as a grave concern and identified the victims as Phami Jajo, Ningthem Kashak, Betterson Jajo and Vareishim Jajo, with Phami and Vareishim reportedly being father and son. He also expressed concern for Akhan Kaping of Ukhrul, who reportedly survived the attack.
Biren Singh said violence originating across the India-Myanmar border was not new and called for strengthened and vigilant border security, particularly in view of the continuing conflict in Myanmar.
Meanwhile, Tamei MLA A. Wangbow Newmai condemned the killings and alleged attacks on civilians, burning of houses, a government school and churches in parts of Kangpokpi district on September 23 and 24. He also condemned the reported killing of Paojangam Chongloi of Wakotphai at Lasan in Tamei subdivision on September 23.
Newmai appealed to all communities to shun violence, coexist peacefully and work towards restoring peace, mutual trust and communal harmony. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
