DM College Arts students protest alleged discrimination in power allocation

Students of DM College of Arts staged a protest rally today, alleging discriminatory treatment by the authority of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) in the allocation of powers to principals of its constituent colleges.

The rally began from DM College of Arts at around 10.30 am and proceeded to A Block of DMU, with students demanding equal powers for the principals of all constituent colleges.

Speaking to the media, Finance Secretary of the DM Arts Students’ Union, Thokchom Raj, alleged that while the DMU authority had empowered principals to appoint Heads of Departments in their respective departments, the Principal of DM College of Arts had not been granted the same power.

He termed the decision discriminatory and a violation of a resolution adopted by the DMU Syndicate on March 12.

The students’ union warned of intensified agitation if the principals of the constituent colleges are not treated equally. Raj also announced that the union would begin a class boycott from today as part of its protest.
