The National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) has claimed responsibility for the killing of Waikhom Athoi @ Shidaba, son of W. Shital and Pramodini, of Khabam Mayai Leikai, Imphal East, stating that it had awarded him capital punishment for alleged violations of the organisation’s directives.
In a statement issued by Sanajaoba Meitei, Information and Publicity Secretary of the NRFM Central Headquarters, the organisation claimed that Athoi @ Shidaba was shot dead at around 12.03 am today at a location near Kangla Sangomsang and Angom Leikai in Imphal East.
The NRFM claimed that Athoi @ Shidaba had undergone basic military training as a member of the Manipur Army, the organisation’s armed wing, and belonged to its 9th batch, bearing MA number 220.
According to the statement, he allegedly deserted a Manipur Army camp on January 19, 2026, with a firearm and subsequently joined the Indian Army. The organisation further alleged that he remained in jail for four months and, after his release, carried out activities without its authorisation.
The NRFM claimed that Athoi @ Shidaba was summoned by the organisation on August 19 but failed to comply and instead remained away. It alleged that he had committed serious offences against the organisation, including retaining its weapon and acting against its interests.
Citing these alleged violations, the NRFM said it had awarded him capital punishment.
The organisation also warned that individuals using the NRFM’s name to carry out unauthorised activities would face punishment according to its directives.
