Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan, along with spiritual leaders, Hindu organisations and representatives from Manipur, has announced a nationwide “Chalo Manipur” movement, calling for protection of Manipur’s territorial integrity, security and indigenous population amid the prolonged ethnic conflict.
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, representatives highlighted the continuing displacement of thousands of people, disruption of national highways and the economic hardship caused by the prolonged crisis.
Santa Nahakpam, General Secretary of the United Committee of Manipur, and Dr Kammei Heera Kabui, President of the Kabui Union Manipur, presented accounts of the situation on the ground.
The organisation demanded that the National Register of Citizens (NRC), with 1951 as the base year, be completed in Manipur before the Census, claiming that failure to do so could legitimise illegal immigration.
It also called for stronger security action against insurgent groups and other elements it accused of fuelling instability, immediate restoration of blocked highways and the safe and dignified rehabilitation of internally displaced persons in their ancestral areas.
Spiritual leaders and organisation heads, including Swami Dhananjay Ji, Sadhu Ram Tiwari, Mukesh Jain and Netrapal Sharma, attended the event.
The organisation said the “Chalo Manipur” campaign would seek nationwide support for its demands, concluding with the slogan: “NRC First, Census Next—Save Indigenous Manipur.”
