Census training deferred in valley districts, continues in Churachandpur, Pherzawl

The House listing and Housing Census training for Phase-I of Census 2027 has been deferred in Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching and Jiribam districts amid prevailing law-and-order concerns, while the training continued in Churachandpur and Pherzawl district as scheduled.

The training in the three valley districts was scheduled to begin on August 20. Imphal West Principal Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, in an order dated August 19, informed the Directorate of Census Operations, Manipur, that the training had been deferred in view of the prevailing law-and-order situation.

The administrations of Kakching and Jiribam also communicated similar decisions to the Directorate of Census Operations and other concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, the three-day training programme for Enumerators and Supervisors engaged in the Houselisting and Housing Census commenced at the Conference Hall of the HSA Complex in Churachandpur district.

The training is being attended by personnel engaged in the Parbung and Pherzawl sub-divisions. Addressing the inaugural session, Zosanglur Joute, ADC Pherzawl and Charge Officer for Tipaimukh-Parbung, urged participants to make full use of the training to ensure smooth conduct of the census exercise and to carry out the subsequent house-to-house enumeration with dedication.

The training is being conducted by Field Trainer K. Lunlenmoi Vaiphei, SDC Parbung, and Field Supervisor T. Wilson Henminlun, SDC, in coordination with the respective Charge Officers and Sub-Divisional Officers.

Participants were briefed on procedures for identifying and numbering houses and recording details of housing conditions, household amenities and assets. They also received practical training on collecting and uploading information through the dedicated mobile application for digital submission of house-listing data.

The training also covered the role of Supervisors in verifying entries, monitoring field progress and guiding Enumerators to ensure complete and accurate coverage.

The contrasting developments come amid growing demands from various groups in Manipur for implementation or updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the conduct of the Census.
