Fresh violence was reported from Tokpa Naga village in the Champhai area of Kangpokpi district on August 11 night, with around 10 houses and a church allegedly set ablaze.
The Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), Manipur, in a statement, said the incident occurred around 9.30 pm when armed persons allegedly entered the village and torched the houses and church. The claims could not be independently verified.
The LNC condemned the reported attack and expressed concern over the alleged targeting of civilian homes and a place of worship. It also questioned the presence and response of security personnel deployed only a few metres from the affected area, which it described as a sensitive red-zone.
The council demanded an inquiry into the conduct of the security personnel and any possible dereliction of duty, besides the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
It also called for a time-bound and impartial investigation, enhanced security in the area, and adequate relief, rehabilitation and compensation for affected families.
With no official account or confirmed identification of the perpetrators available so far, details remain based on the LNC’s statement.
