Andro Assembly Constituency MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar has threatened to launch a defamation case against the People’s United Youth Alliance (PUYA) due to what he referred to as baseless and defamatory statements made about the functioning of the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Moirangpurel.
Addressing media reporters at his residence located at Angtha Ngariyan Chingkhong, Shyamkumar rejected as baseless the charge that the doctors and nurses employed by the government in the CHC were earning their salaries while the services of private doctors and nurses were being hired in place of those of the government-employed doctors and nurses.
The MLA stated that the Moirangpurel health centre, which was upgraded from the status of a PHSC (Primary Health Sub-Centre) to CHC in 2019, was being reinforced in order to provide health facilities for the people in the area.
Shyamkumar also pointed out that the additional staff members and other resources were mobilized through the intervention of Raj Medicity and a management committee had been formed to take care of the operation of the CHC. He said that the doctors, nurses, and others have been employed to provide uninterrupted service, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.
PUYA, on its part, has recently been making allegations against the MLA through the media and social media about the employment and payments made to the doctors and nurses at the CHC.
The MLA challenged PUYA to provide documentary proof of their allegations before the concerned authority. If it is proved to be true, then he would be ready to accept any legal process. However, if it is proved to be a false one, then PUYA would be ready to face legal action for defamation.
Shyamkumar further said that the CHC needs additional doctors, nurses, technicians, and facilities. The process is already being taken to make the health service delivery better to the residents of Moirangpurel and nearby areas.
The MLA contended that the allegations were only meant to defame the people rendering the health services.
